PEACEPAL INTRODUCES “ADOPT-A-COUNTRY” PROJECT

In order to establish increasingly more stable funding for its international programs, PeacePal is introducing its “Adopt-a-Country” project.  Sponsors choose a country and donate $65 a month to run the PeacePal program for a local school and its sibling school for an entire year.

“By far, our biggest expense is mailing costs,” said Project PeacePal founder and director Sarah Wilkinson.  “Even in the age of computers, we have found that old-fashioned hand-written letters are still the most meaningful form of communication.”

Wilkinson explained that compounding the challenge is that many partner schools are in locations without reliable national mail service (let alone telephone or internet service) and that means that PeacePal has to rely on shipping vendors such as FedEx to get letters in to and out of partner countries.

“With this new project, donors choose a country and then fund the costs for the local students and their new international friends to exchange three to four letters each during the school year.  Just think, for only $780 a year, you can help dozens of kids connect with their peers around the world, participate in peace education activities, and learn more about themselves and the planet they live on,” added Wilkinson.

Countries available for adoption include Amazing Afghanistan, Glorious Ghana, Terrific Togo, Sensational Senegal, Glimmering Gambia, Neighborly Nicaragua, Powerful Pakistan, Soulful South Africa, Tremendous Turkmenistan, and Incredible India.

Act now before this fabulous opportunity to foster world peace one country at a time slips through your (letter-writing) fingers!
